The following old photograph depicts a scene in Abilene Texas during the 1880's. John Henry Biggs owned a saloon here at this time. The camera was positioned on the Texas & Pacific Railway tracks at Pine and North 1st street, looking north. These were the very tracks that John helped build for the railway company as construction pushed westward. The "Cattle Exchange Saloon" just happens show partially on the right (scroll to the right if you don't see it) and it was one of several saloons that spread out along North 1st. Still others lined up on South 1st behind the camera. Which saloon John owned is not known, but the rustic setting and unpaved streets definitely capture the spirit of the wild west.
